June 2019 – More Changes

UPDATE Sept 19: A fruit only diet was too harsh and must have pulled too many toxins out. After 4 months of trying different approaches I had no choice but to stop incorporating fruit. I feel the fruit sugars feed the bad bugs associated with heavy metals and the astringent fruits pull out more toxins than the body can handle. The ideal food plan for me at this stage is mainly alkaline greens. Back to the salads over the summer for me.

After stopping the customized vitamins from Mensa Medical I went downhill (after a couple of months) which was disappointing. This meant only small gains had been made over the previous year and the supps were mostly propping me up much like an anti-depressant would. Good if you don’t want to take an anti-depressant but no so good if you want a complete fix with out needing any supplements. So it was back to the drawing board for me to work out where more gains could be made.

Chelation with DMSA and ALA was also proving problematic; it was just too slow, difficult and painful. I needed another approach.

I reasoned that being acidic and then doing chelation was just making me more acidic. More acidity meant more pain and fatigue. I knew being toxic caused acidity but I hadn’t been able to get on top of it for any length of time. I came across some Dr Morse videos on you-tube and after 20 or 30 videos I decided to give his method a go. I’d forget about the metals and just work on clearing out as much of my lymphatic system as possible and then reassess things. An iridoligy eye photo showed cloudy upper eyes which meant lymphatic issues in my brain. I was skeptical about iridoligy but I admit I found this interesting and it certainly matched up with my symptoms. Only time will tell how successful this all is with follow up eye checks.

I ended up seeing Rosanne Calabrese who operates  a clinic in Florida. Skype sessions and sending eye photos made things easy. These Morse practitioners genuinely want to help and most have been through life threatening health issues that have been solved with the Morse protocol.

So i’m a few months in on the herbs and diet, and so far it’s going better than I expected. It has been very difficult at times. I took 2 to 3 times as long as directed to tolerate the herbs as they slowly cleansed my lymphatic blockages. It’s a vegetarian diet too so I took a while to get into routines with that. This will be interesting as I’ve been told time and time again by others that meat and eggs is must for mercury/lead etc detoxing – so we will see. I’m not missing those heavy foods yet.

Fruit is a big part of the diet but I’m am really struggling with this. Fruit will naturally cleanse the lymphatics and feed the cells the vital sugars but I suspect it’s stirring up some heavy metals which are struggling to be excreted. Also, adrenals also need to be functioning well to tolerate fruit. The herbal program is big on getting the kidneys and adrenals functioning well again.

So everything has to be managed carefully and increased as tolerated. It all ties in. I’m currently ramping up the nervous system and brain lymphatic drainage so this should produce some results. So far, across the board, symptoms have been decreasing in intensity and life overall has been improving. So some improvement has happened but i’m a fair way from getting the results I want.

It may also be due to a new chelator I’m trialing which I will explain in my next post.

So overall – no supplements anymore and Dr Morse herb and diet protocol started. Also trialing a less harsh and apparently more effective chelator.

 

 

 

 

 

Alpha Lipoic Acid Backfire – A Slight Setback

After warning people for years about taking too much Alpha Lipoic Acid too soon, I go and take too much.

I had done a few rounds of DMSA (15mg average) and had got too confident. I added 3mg ALA to the last 2 rounds and this seemed to go okay. What I hadn’t realized was it was well past it’s use-by date. So when I made the slight increase to 5mg ALA of fresh stuff it hit me hard. After 2 days I was starting to fade badly so stopped the ALA. To make matters worse, 5 days later I did another round of just DMSA thinking I would be mopping up the metals I had stirred up. This only made matters worse as the damage had been done. In theory, our minerals and glutathione levels need to recover before doing another round. I wasn’t waiting long enough in between rounds.

Then the suffering started. It was a awful 2 weeks of:

  • racing heart – I could not lie down during the day or else I would get too agitated. I had to keep busy just to keep my mind off the symptoms.
  • head/scalp tension – my God, this was something else, I’ve heard people describe a ‘head burn’, well this probably wasn’t far off.
  • burning lower arms
  • anxiety and fearfulness, awful thoughts

It’s safe to say it has been a forgettable few weeks and is only starting to resolve. A lesson learned. I was having up to 3 hot showers a day for pain relief.

I found some relief with coffee enemas, clay/charcoal binders, saunas (sometimes made me weaker), cold swims/showers, staying occupied outside the house, dry brushing skin, alkaline foods. If or when I restart DMSA rounds I will wait 11 days in between for the body to recover.

This episode also made me realize I needed to ramp up my anti-microbial program to make chelation much easier. I started Milk Kefir again, I ordered some more kefir grains online and found a local store bought milk that was suitable. Otherwise it’s all too hard. To be able to pop down to the nearest store is key, and put fresh batch on every day or 2.

Update 1 week later – had to stop Kefir as I think all the yeasts and other bacteria made me worse. Perhaps it was because it’s dairy. I’m not sure but it just didn’t suit me. I will find probitics without yeasts, sugar and lactose. 5lac has yeasts so that may also have to go.

I also make my own sauerkraut which is very simple, i seem to tolerate this in moderation. I dabble with 5Lac and Vivomixx probiotics also. (not sold on these) So the battle is on for the gut terrain. I’m ramping up the Fungus Fighter (struggling with this) and getting that up to full dose (4 droppers/day) is my immediate aim. The occasional coffee “bomb” to clear everything out, I had a really good gall bladder purge the other day with a few big soft stones coming out. Some others use the Hulda Clark liver purge but I haven’t tried this in years as I was too weak.

Cold swims in the ocean and cold (or whatever I could handle) showers seemed to be very effective. Painful to start but always seem better afterwards, as long as it doesn’t weaken you.

I have been taking up to 3 spoonfuls per day, 3 separate occasions of Dr Schultz’s charcoal and clay mix which seems to be helping. After many timing experiments I actually take it first before a meal. Big glass of warm water with the powder, wait 5 minutes, then food. An hour away from any other supplements.

In terms of what I can manage these days, I went for my first scuba dive for a decade which I seemed to handle well. I still have inflammation in the inner ear so equalizing was painful so it’ll be  while before I’m back down there but it’s a good start. Still a lot of work ahead.

Taking a break from my Website / Blog…

For the time being I won’t be updating and replying to comments unfortunately. I hope to return as soon as possible but this is a health decision. Long sessions on the computer sap my energy more than they should so I am limiting any computer work.

Feel free to comment and get in contact as I will still glance over it but I can’t promise a reply anytime soon.

This is what I’m currently doing:

Diet: I follow mainly cooked veges, lots of greens and a little meat. This coincides with my methylation status which is borderline over-methylator. I avoid all the goodies such as sugar, booze and baking. I drink ph8.5 local spring water and add electrolytes sometimes.

Lifestyle: I avoid stress like the plague. I would recommend anyone limit or stop any unnecessary stress whether it’s physical, mental or emotional. I also attempt to occupy myself with activities that I find non-taxing and interesting; whether that’s self-study from a book or working in the yard/garden. I avoid EMF from computers and house power, talking on mobile phone etc as much as possible, but not to the point where thinking about it all the time is stressful.

I spend as much time outside and follow Dr Jack Kruse’s work. This works well for me and I continue to work towards a ‘natural light’ life. Less fake blue light and more sunlight.

I usually wind down/meditate once a day.

Supplementation: Walsh Institute/ Mensah Medical – to naturally rebuild neurological function and therefore detox function. See previous post.

And just be aware that even with the best diet and supplements, it’s what you do or don’t do all day that is just as important. If we keep doing things that take too much energy from us or stress us out then we’ll continue to struggle. We can outsource some of the solutions but it also comes down to us solving a lot of it ourselves.

I choose to stay calm when previously I would have got wound up. It’s a choice, so choose to not emotionally react. It’s a waste of vital energy; energy we need for healing.

Sleep: The Jack Kruse advice has been beneficial. Like avoiding fake light as much as possible after sunset. Also Dr Klinghart’s sleep sanctuary tips are good. e.g Ambient AC ‘body voltage’ should be less than 1 volt AC. I measure 15 volts in my bedroom so I’m working to decrease that.

All these little improvements add up. I make the changes and don’t think about it anymore. There is so much temptation and technology in the world today but I think a lot of it comes with a cost. We weren’t designed for all this constant over-stimulation; it can burn us out.

My Visit to Mensah Medical

In July 2017 I flew to California where Mensah Medical had an outreach clinic. I had done enough research to want to consult with Dr Mensah. He said I could have gone to Australia but for a number of reasons I decided to see the man himself. I had also read the book ” Nutrient Power – Heal Your Biochemistry” which was quite educational and that answered a few long standing questions I had.

The most common imbalances are:

Elevated copper/zinc ratio. Overmethylation, Undermethylation, Pyrolles disorder (B6 Zinc), Heavy Metal Overload, Glucose Dyscontrol/Blood sugar issues, Malabsorbtion.

I can tick a few of those.

So with a consultation and accompanying lab tests, we can be prescribed the most ideal nutrient combination for our bio-type. These supplement combinations supposedly balance our biochemistry. It seems too good to be true and I’ll be finding out soon enough whether it improves my lot, or not. My history with high dose supplements hasn’t been very successful.

As you can see below, dosing is typically high. This just highlights why we shouldn’t try to do this stuff ourselves. I think I’d now rather take no supplements than try and guess what I need and accidentally over-dose in certain nutrients.

Nutrient overload causes more trouble than nutrient deficiencies. Better to eat as well as we can until we really now what imbalances we have.

Some of the testing included – Whole Blood Histamine (methylation status, high histamine = undermethylator & low histamine <40ng/mL is over-methylator), Thyroid, Copper Serum, Vitamin D, and Plasma Zinc, Pyroluria/Pyrolles, % Free Copper, Homocysteine. Trace Elements Hair test.

The histamine test confirmed to me why the gut healing anti-histamine Ketotifen didn’t work for me months ago. I can only assume that Low histamine plus taking an anti-histamine = even lower histamine = severe fatigue and low mood. Perhaps there is more to it but that makes sense. Histamine is a neuro-transmitter so that explains things.

An example of customized morning and evening nutrients/supplements following consultation and testing.

Other mandatory supplements can include: Evening Primrose Oil, N-Acetyl-Cysteine, a Cal/Mag combo and Lithium Orotate. GABA is an option for helping to relax.

Example of an over-methylator’s optimal diet: mainly folate rich veges, some protein, no soy. I need to research this more but it seems happy vegans and vegetarian could most likely be tending toward the over-methylator range – i.e low Whole Blood Histamine. They produce more than enough methyl so do not need so much high methionine foods – meat, eggs, fish.

They also produce high levels of some neuro-transmitters such as serotonin so taking serotonin enhancing medications like SSRI’s could lead to severely worse symptoms. To avoid this, doctors could have simply done a Whole Blood Histamine test so see what drug suited what patient. Instead, it’s experimental with sometimes disastrous outcomes.

On the other hand, under-methylators would most likely feel worse eating vegan/vegetarian because they are high histamine/low methyl people. Therefore these individuals may instead need high methyl foods such as meat. eggs, fish, chicken to feel well.

The only bio-type nutritionist I know is Samantha Gilbert (that’s Jhill-bear)

We’re born with our methylation status so the sooner we work this out the better if we want to feel our best.

According to Walsh Institute:

70% of population exhibits normal methylation. 22% are under methylated and 8% are over methylated.

Popular genetic testing for MTHFR, MS and SNP’s are limited in their ability to determine overall methyl status.

June 2017 – Methylation, Copper and Pyroluria

This is just an brief post on some very important topics

I’ve made progress, I suspect due to partly correcting the B6 and Zinc imbalance. (Pyroluria) I under-estimated how much of a difference this can make and suggest that anyone else who has any associated psychological symptoms to please investigate and rule out that this might be affecting you. Diet alone usually won’t fix this.

After feeling improved after months of supplementation, I didn’t reorder and weeks later could not work out why I was feeling worse. The confusion that the imbalance created caused me to not even realise what was happening.

And I’ve since learned that although you can treat yourself to some degree, this isn’t recommended, particularly for long term chronic cases. Correct testing is required to know what is biochemically going on with you. The question is: Who am I biochemically? If you don’t that, then you’re experimenting. Methylation disorder’s aren’t related to Pyroluria but both can cause nasty symptoms.

  • Are you an under-methylator, or an over-methylator? You also might have normal methylation but have Pyroluria and/or Copper issues which will need correcting.
  • Is too much copper playing a role?
  • Do you have or have you developed Pyroluria (Zinc and B6 excretion causing psychological issues)
  • Is toxicity an issue? (lead, mercury, cadmium etc)

This is too complicated to properly self-treat. If nothing else could be done in terms of seeing a professional, at least initially for Pyroluria, then a therapeutic trial might be an idea. Something like 50mg P-5-P B6 and Zinc Pincolate would be a start. Certainly better than suffering. Assuming stress is limited, some improvement should be felt within a couple of weeks or slightly longer.

Methylation needs some serious research before trying anything. Under-methylators might do well on high methyl foods like meat and eggs while under-methylators may do well with less of those foods and more folate rich foods. If an under-methylator decides to go a vegan or vegetarian diet then that’s exactly what they don’t need – more folate and less methyl.

Over-methylators usually have low histamine so taking an anti-histamine is not a good idea. I learnt this when I took Ketotifen for leaky gut. This was part of a mercury detox protocol. A lot of this heavy metal detoxing makes people worse because it can be difficult to find the right help.

With the issues I listed above, the damage and suffering is from the oxidative damage caused by the underlying problems. Therefore, anti-oxidants such as Vitamin C and E will help to alleviate symptoms.

I underestimated how anxious, depressed and generally miserable one can feel when Zinc and B6 are too low or unbalanced. Any form of stress whether it be mental, physical or emotional increases Pyrolles in the blood therefore causing even more Zinc and B6 to be excreted. That’s why it’s important to minimise any form of stress. Even when you feel like you can do more, please don’t, at least not yet. It’s just not worth it.

High zinc on hair tests can also point to Pyroluria. I always thought my high Zinc was a good thing but I was wrong as Zinc was being excreted.

With excercise, there may be an initial high but you will most likely pay for it later when the imbalances catch up with you. Remember, the physical stress on the body will cause excretion of vital nutrients until you are rebalanced. And cause oxidative stress. That applies to work, relationships and any mental strain (noise, light, concentration etc). The secret is to calmly float throughout the day without actually straining yourself.

Someone that does know how to treat these imbalances is Dr Mensah at Mensah Medical. William Walsh was a pioneer and has a great book. I have not met someone like Dr Mensah yet but will endeavor to so I can fine tune my program.

After researching some of the work he does, many questions I’ve had over the years have been answered.

Methylation: I underestimated how of a role much methylation plays. Being an under-methylator or over-meythlator can have huge ramifications.

Methylation is an epigenetic pathway used by cells to control gene expression. This is an important. Methylation is the process by which methyl molecules are added to enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters as well as to DNA itself.

Under methylator – low serotonin and dopamine. High folate. Anti-depressants such as SSRI’s may suit these people. That’s not to stay they are recommended as a first line of treatment now that we know certain nutrients at correct dosages are very powerful. Among other targeted nutrients, methionine, calcium and magnesium can treat under-methylation issues.

Over-methylator – high serotonin and dopamine, low folate. SSRI’s commonly have severe side-effects as they cause too much serotonin. Conversely, folate and niacin can be helpful because it’s decreases methyl, calming you down. High folate foods such as spinach can be beneficial here. I’m wondering if folate as a supplement may also help here. But i won’t be doing this by myself, it’s too serious and in-depth to solve ourselves.

Over reaction to anti-histamines and SAM-e is also typical signs for over-methylation.

Because over-methylators are always fired up, it can take a lot to excite them. If a house fire starts, they will calmly pick up some personal items and walk out. It’s because they are already ‘up there’, in that flight-or-flight mode.

Their view on Chelation is that it’s also risky for people with imbalances because it will take out even more good metals like Zinc and Calcium. This can months to improve and rebuild nutrient reserves. I’m beginning to wonder how many heavy metal toxicity cases are actually nutrient imbalances because it’s more common to look at toxicity than imbalances. And it’s difficult to treat imbalances if you don’t know what you’re doing. A great balanced diet will not suffice; only targeted therapeutic dosages of nutrients will.

Pyrolles, (pyroluria, kryptopyrolles, Mauve Factor) – Zinc and B6 play a vital role in the creation of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Pyrolles in blood attach to Zinc and B6 and then get excreted. This is not ideal to say the least but treatment is straight forward as long as severe stress has ended or is decreased. The treatment itself will begin to lessen the internal strain – the self-fulfilling stress cycle.

Copper imbalance – copper is required for production of neurotransmitters but too much can cause the fight-or-flight mechanism to stay on most or all of the time which can cause people to feel like their life is constantly in danger and nothing can seemingly help them calm down. This constant neural stimulation wears down the mind, body and soul and also furthers nutrient imbalance.

It would make sense that high copper foods should be limited, such as avocado, liver, chocolate and nuts. And copper supplements are not required as we get enough from a good balanced diet.

I will continue to learn more about his critical area of health and post any relevant information. And correct or add to the info in this post.

Dr Bruce Jones – Melbourne – Detox Doctor

Dr Jones is in Melbourne, Australia. All the testing I did can be seen 2 or 3 posts ago, last month. Too many perhaps, but fascinating all the same. The stool test from Germany was very informative. But finding solutions is the tricky part.

The products he recommends are Cilantro, R-Lipoic Acid, EDTA, BioSil and Pecta-Sol C. Unfortunately not for me as far too aggressive.

Effective for mild cases of chronic toxicity but not mild to severe as I have found out.

Anyone who has a severe reaction to agents such as Cilantro, DMSA and R-Lipoic Acid should not continue with them as it’s very easy to do WAY MORE damage. The old adage ‘no pain no gain’ doesn’t work in this instance. Any pain actually means you’re going backwards and most likely damaging yourself.

Before doing any testing, I was advised to start on 240mg Super R-Lipoic Acid. Holy shit, NO WAY I thought at the time after previous disasters with Alpha Lipoic Acid. Since I was also taking the Ecoeugenics PectaSol-C binder I was advised that this will bind any toxins and I should be okay.

This was reckless advice. I compromised and started on about 10mg, so 1/25 of what I was advised. And boom, within days I was verging on being admitted to a mental hospital. 240mg might well have been a hospital dose because I may not have been conscious. For someone else it might be fine but we are all so different it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ situation. It’s potentially very dangerous.

It just shows that anyone has to be so careful with taking anything that mobilises toxins. No doctor or test will EVER know or show exactly what toxin levels, in what locations, are really inside you. Mobilising toxins is the easiest thing to do and it also causes the most damage. Getting the toxins OUT OF YOUR BODY is the most important thing. If they just keep recirculating around and around they can make you feel horrendous.

PectaSol-C is a great general detox product to be taken daily but in my opinion it’s not really a top notch and hard core binder. The charcoal and clay products I think do a better job. Something like Dr Shultz’s Intestinal Absorber #2 will definitely soak up some nasties. For sensitive people, these binders alone can actually have some mild side effects. One product at a time.

I hope Dr Jones can adapt his protocols for those of us who aren’t ready for the powerful detoxing agents. I am more than happy to help as I progress. The detox game is high risk for doctors so I do appreciate those who actually try to help those i need. It’s all pretty new so we just have to be careful and take things slowly.
